WHAT IS DYE SUBLIMATION PRINTING?

Sublimation printing is a process that uses specific sublimation inks that, when heat activated, transform their dyes into a gaseous state that penetrates the fibers of polyester materials, infusing or embedding an image into the fabric. There are two types of sublimation printing: printing onto a transfer paper or carrier sheet and then transferring the image to fabric under heat and pressure, and printing sublimation images directly onto fabric.  The video below shows an example by one of our press vendors.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT DYE SUBLIMATION

There are a lot of things to consider when ordering dye sub shirts
Dye sublimation decorated apparel is bright , bold , big and colorful.  There are no boundaries and every piece is going to be as unique as you are.
So every piece is going to be unique.  That means if you order a dozen of the same shirt each one will be slightly different from the other.  It’s a feature of the production process for dye sub and there is nothing that can be done about it short of switching to cut and sew sublimation.
What makes these shirts unique? Each print is made individually and the pressing process for transferring the sublimation print forces the shirt to lay completely flat.
If you think about it, we’re not flat and neither are our clothes.  So when we force the shirt to lay flat we create Crinkles where the shirt doesn’t want to lay flat. thus producing VOIDS.  This is part of the sublimation printing process.
We are all ways in constant pursuit for the best way prevent all print voids, were only a minimum number of these voids will occur.

One of the only limitations you really need to take into consideration with sublimated clothing is that it can only be used with polyester fabrics. This is due to the way in which the gas transfers into the polyester fibres – dye sub simply will not bond to cotton.
But if you prefer the feel of cotton over polyester, we offer a ‘cotton feel’ polyester which feels very similar to traditional T-shirt fabric. In fact, on ‘feel’ alone you would not be able to tell the difference. We dare you to compare!
